I will be going to see the movie, and I’m excited to see how they adapt it. (Sidenote: Jason’s tornado kick looks so much cleaner than mine and I am jealous). He handled it much better than I ever would at his age. The way Jason handled the situation is another sign that he is definitely not an “overbearing” and “overly emotional” teenager. And man, did I relate to Jason when the two of them insisted upon being taught more advanced techniques. I know we’ll get to see them develop over time, but I don’t blame Kimberley or Trini for the way they handled those two. I wonder if they returned home and have recurring nightmares about this?Īt this point, the only other characters that really stand out are Bulk and Skull. I also feel bad for those astronauts who were just trying to do their jobs and were told that their home was going to be destroyed. Her introduction is memorable, if a bit repetitive seeing as it appears in the opening credits. The idea of baking clay to make monsters is really cool, and not one I’ve seen before (even by anime standards!) Also, I love witches, so it wasn’t going to be hard for me to like Rita. And Zack creating his own fighting style? I don’t know about you, but these teenagers seem like they’ve got themselves together. And yet Jason looks like he’s been doing it for a while and isn’t breaking anytime soon under the pressure. I can say from my experience assisting martial arts classes that teaching, especially if the students are new and/or young, is not an easy job. All of this at a juice bar, which somehow doubles as a community center. Seriously, it’s only episode one, and we already see Kimberley doing gymnastics on a balance beam like it’s no big deal, Zack trying out his Hip Hop kido against Jason, and Jason teaching a martial arts class. I found it funny simply because the teenagers they chose to recruit don’t seem that “overbearing” or “emotional”. I’m completely okay with this because I’m a sucker for camp and cheese, and I expected it going in anyway. The dialogue can be quite corny or plain ridiculous, especially Zordon’s “I need you to bring me five overbearing and overemotional humans in order to save the world” line. He also gives them giant robots known as Zords and the powers of the dinosaurs.

Zordon, her worst enemy, recruits five teenagers to become the Power Rangers and fight off her Putty army. The evil Rita Repulsa escapes from a space dumpster and plans to attack earth. It’s a first episode, and has quite a lot to throw at you.

I just missed out on watching it when it first aired, and my best exposure to it is through Linkara’s History of Power Rangers retrospective.
